A few days before the playoffs, the Dallas Stars have fired General Manager Doug Armstrong today after a sub-par season. The Stars snuck into the playoffs by 2 points this year, but it was evident that something was not right with the team.
"Well we didn't have a season which I considered to be successful" the teams owner said today.
So who will be taking over? The answer - head coach Terry Murray.
"Well we felt that he was the best fit because he knows the players so well and he will be able to decide who will go and who will stay".
"I feel that my relationship with the players is a bonus. I am excited to become the teams GM going forward and into the draft. We wanted to make a change before the draft rather then after".
Terry Murray is the teams 3rd manager in its history. Although making the playoffs with a record of 42-36-4, it wasn't enough for Armstrong to keep his job.
"A big reason I fired him was because of his constant idea that if we keep all the same players, we will be successful. Well we weren't. We barely made it".
A good move by Armstrong was acquiring Kiprusoff, but many criticized him for not trading Turco sooner. It is not yet decided if Murray will continue coaching for the next season.
"Its tough to see him go, cause he was the one after all that hired me in the first place to be the coach". Murray has no expierence as a GM, but says that does not matter. Armstrong fired Dave Tippett after going 0-3-0. Under Armstrong as coach, the team went 7-9-0, and with Murray as coach, the team went 35-24-3.
