"Well as most of you have heard or seen we have made a couple big decisions based on next year. First off we would like to thank the players that have contributed to the great success we've had this season, but will not be returning. Some of the players being released following this season are as follows:"
Ric Jackman
Sergei Brylin
Jonathan Hedstrom
Maxim Kondratiev
Travis Moen
Joe Dipenta
Joe Motzko
Alexei Smirnov
Doug O'Brien
"We were unable to come to terms with these players and wish them the best wherever they may land next season."
"Finally we made two very tough decisions this afternoon that we thought may hurt our franchise or strengthen it. We are basically looking towards the future of our franchise even though we are a top team. We want to continue to be a top team for years to come. Today we had to cut ties with two more players. One being Jeremy Roenick who we acquired at the trade deadline from Phoenix. When we brought in JR we had thought about keeping him around and signing him for a year or two rather than just renting him. But when it came down to it, he just didn't fit into our plan for next year and we had to let him go. We wish him the best for the rest of his career. On a positive note we came to terms with Tempo Numminen and he will be sticking around in Anaheim."
Our biggest move and decision of the day was involving our goalie controversy. Everyone in the league was wondering who would start in net for the playoffs and who would be kept going into the future knowing we can only keep one. Well today we decided on starting Ilya Brygalov and signing him to a long term deal. We are parting ways with Giguere, which was a very hard decision, but a decision we feel was the best. Bryzgalov showed he could be our starter and got his fair share of games this year. He had an amazing record and better stats than Giguere and he is 4 years younger also so I think he will have an impact on our club for a longer period of time.
"Today was one of the toughest days I've had since becoming the GM of the Ducks and I hope I can dodge any more of these that are headed my way in the future"
"Thanks for attending"
